Free Weekend

Added: October 23rd, 2006 (tagged with: random)

The first free weekend in quite some time... Most of the time Stephanie and I go to my parents house to visit, and the past two weekends we we're in Minnesota. Two weeks ago, Stephanie and I went up for a wedding and to see Grandma Erickson who just had another bypass surgery. Last weekend, we went back to Minnesota for her sister's housewarming party and, sadly, an unrelated funeral. This weekend, thanks to plumbing problems at my parents house, we got a weekend to ourselves.

On Friday night, I'm not sure what we did on Friday... Um... Had breakfast for dinner (pancakes and french toast)... and, um... yeah...

On Saturday night, Steph and I went to AMC Theatres to see 6:30 p.m. showing of The Departed. Sold Out. But, the 7:40 p.m. show still had tickets available, so we bought two tickets, went up to the theater and sat down for and hour and a half and waited for the show to start. There were two benches side-by-side where we waited, on one end Stephanie and myself, in the middle, another twenty-something couple, and at the other end, an insanely racist 80+ year old grandma. Steph and I were busy solving "monster sudoku" puzzles and playing Final Fantasy II (guess who was doing which =), so we didn't have to deal with the all of the racial remarks being thrown out - but it was enough to feel angry just listening. I don't judge people by the way they look, I judge them by the person was muttered by the elder woman just minutes after declaring all brown people evil because they never smile or laugh, referring not only to people in the Middle East, but a group of young adults standing (and laughing) yards away from us. She went on and on for almost the entire hour and a half we waited for the movie to open up about race, religion, and politics. Apparently, all marriages are a sham. But anyway, I digress.

The Departed was a really good movie. I recommend it to anyone who likes gangster movies, lots of violence, and intelligent stories. And if anyone is interested, I have heard this movie is a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong flick Mou gaan dou (or Internal Affairs) [thanks for the info Rob, I'll check it out].

On Sunday, Stephanie an I went shopping for Halloween costumes! Stephanie is going to go out as a Pirate and I am going as Brandon Lee's character Eric Draven from The Crow.
