Winter In Chicago
Added: February 5th, 2007 (tagged with: chicago)
It's another cold day in Chicago, no I am not referring to the Chicago Bears loss to the Indianapolis Colts in yesterday's Super Bowl, I'm referring to the coldest sting of days in Chicago in the last 10 YEARS!
I dodged a bullet on Friday. At 3:03 p.m. the Chicago Transit Authority had to close down express service on the Purple Line trains (the train line I take to and from work between Chicago and Evanston). So instead of needed to get on one train, I would have had to transfer from train to bus to train to train at least doubling my travel time. But, I got lucky. The train as soon as I got off the first train, there was an announcement made that this train was going to be the first train to make the express run into Chicago. Woo-hoo! Normal travel time (20 minutes on train, 10 minutes walking).
This morning, I was not so lucky. I left my house at my normal time (7:35 a.m.), got to the train station about 10 minutes later, and proceeded to wait in -15°F weather (with wind chills reaching about -30°F) for the next 35 minutes waiting for a Purple Line train to come by. I finally got on the train at 8:21 a.m.
